Vampirella

I was in Orbital Comics the other day and spotted the classic door-sized Gonzalez Vampirella poster on the wall.  It's back in print... here. Above: Vampirella 45 - Sept 1975. Cover: Enrique Torres, Jose Gonzalez, Frank FrazettaSanjulian. Below: Vampirella by the great José "Pepe" Gonzalez.

Neo Victorian

Looking like it's taken some inspiration from Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula, another great fashion editorial from Vogue Netherlands for November 2012. Neo Victorian. Fashion Editor: Marije Goekoop. Photography: Marc De Groot/Witman Kleipool. Model: Anna de Rijk.

Early Hewlett

A good few years ago, circa 1988, some art samples arrived by post to the 2000AD command module from a certain Jamie Hewlett and as you can see, he was brilliant even then...

Spidey and the Droste Effect

From somewhere around 1986; detail from a Marvel UK Licensing folder of Spidey reading a Marvel UK Licensing folder, etc, etc.

ROOM 237

I heard about the theories surrounding Stanley Kubrick's The Shining a while ago and watched the film again to see if could spot the various references and meanings that he's purportedly hidden amongst the footage. This film looks fascinating. Great poster design too!

Vogue Gets Surreal

Surrealism makes the cover of Vogue Turkey for November, featuring the art of Taner Ceylan as one of the artists contributing to this special Art Issue. This has to be one of the strangest covers in the history of the magazine.

IRON MAN 3

October 1967

Another original cover idea from Playboy Art director Arthur Paul. This one features one of LeRoy Neiman's 'Femlins'; a mischievous black and white female Gremlin. Photography by J. Barry O'Rourke. Femlin sculpture by Austin Fox, Jr.

Double O Heaven

I don't normally bother with this magazine when it's handed out at the tube stations, but this issue was dedicated to Bond and a pretty good read. I'm sure I've seen that cover line before though...

Are You Ready?

From the astoundingly brilliant book, Cult-Ure by Rian Hughes. Every bookshelf needs this.

My portrait of Rian Hughes, 2010.

Vaughan Oliver @ Typo London

Yesterday I was lucky to see the great Vaughan Oliver giving a talk at Typo London and very inspiring it was too. Über-Typographer Rian Hughes got me in to that one and today he's giving a talk of his own. Here are a couple of posters designed by Vaughan Oliver from two of my favourite albums and sleeves of the 80's. Colourbox and This Mortal Coil with photography by Nigel Grierson.

Norman Reedus Drops In

What could be more perfect than the star of The Walking Dead tv show dropping in to Orbital's Halloween themed Magick Eye exhibition opening this evening? Here's Norman Reedus hanging with Manko in front of one of my framed images of her as a VVITCH!

The main opening party will be held on Halloween night itself, but tonight had a good turn-out too.

Here's Jason Atomic with Rufus Dayglo

Beware The Fang Gang!

From 1966, the first copy of Monster World that I owned. Unfortunately the cover of my issue has since gone AWOL, but I managed to find this great reproduction of it. I posted the Batman & Robin poster from this issue waaay back in December of last year.

VVITCH featuring MANKO

Just in the nick of time, my two pieces for the Orbital Halloween themed exhibition, featuring a particularly Magickal Manko. The letters were sampled from an old medieval manuscript that used two V's as a precursor to the letter W.

Opening tomorrow: Jason Atomic & Garry Leach present MAGICK EYE 2: A salacious slice of Halloween Cheesecake and Horror at the Orbital Comics Gallery, 8 Great Newport Street, London WC2H 7JA. Oct 18th - Nov 18th. Featuring work by: Junko Mizuno, Rockin’ JellyBean, Rufus Dayglo, Graham Humphreys, Gaye Black, Shaky Kane, Dennis Franklin, Tom Spencer, Billy Chainsaw, Carl Stimpson, Matt Valentine, Steve Cook, Jason Atomic, Garry Leach, Rian Hughes, Ellen Rogers, Una Fricker, Will Simpson, Garry Erskine, Steve Pugh, Bill Ward.

Scarlett Goes Goth!

Scarlett Johansson poses for Steven Klein in an homage to 90's fashion and to celebrate W magazine's 40th anniversary. The other three covers celebrate the 1970s: Rooney Mara. 1980s: Mia Wasikowska and the 2000s: Keira Knightley. This one definitely has the edge!

Bewitched!

Elizabeth Montgomery and Agnes Moorehead from the tv show - Bewitched, 1964.
